About
A sourced record of who governs
Govpedia answers a simple question with evidence: who holds public office in each country right now, and since when.
What it is
Govpedia is a structured reference of governments: heads of state, heads of government, cabinets, ministries and the people who lead them. Unlike an encyclopaedia article, every statement is a separate record with its own sources and a verification status, so a reader can see at a glance what is confirmed and what is not.
It is written for journalists, researchers, civil servants, diplomats and companies that work with governments.
Who publishes it
Govpedia is part of IQGov, the magazine of digital government. IQGov’s editors are responsible for the record. Research is done by editors and by the Govpedia research agent, an AI system that gathers changes from official pages; every change it proposes is reviewed before it is published.
Independence
Govpedia takes no money from governments, parties or candidates for its records, and no one can pay to change or remove a record. Officials can request access to propose updates to their institution, with evidence, under the same rules as everyone else.
Reusing the data
The records are free to reuse under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence, with credit to Govpedia. Each country can be downloaded as JSON or CSV, and the whole record is available from the data page.
